Personality Types – A or B?
filed in Philosophy, Uncategorized on Nov.09, 2009
Is it possible to be a Type A personality and a night-owl? I’m a card-carrying member of the latter group. Well, I don’t really have a card that says “Ted Wallace, Night Owl” – though maybe I should. I mean, I get a sh*tload of stuff done in any given day, but I’m just not an early-riser. It’s much easier for me to add a few extra hours on to the end of the day than it is for me to try to stack them up at the beginning.
What do you think, dear reader?
Not that I’m dying to qualify as a Type A personality – those people are usually wound WAY too tight for me. I try to be as laid back, mellow and relaxed as possible. Though if you took a look at how busy I am, you might tend to disagree. I don’t know. For those of you who know me IRL, do you think I’m a Type A or Type B?
Here are the characteristics:
Type A individuals can be described as impatient, time-conscious, concerned about their status, highly competitive, ambitious, business-like, aggressive, having difficulty relaxing; and are sometimes disliked by individuals with Type B personalties for the way that they’re always rushing. They are often high-achieving workaholics who multi-task, drive themselves with deadlines, and are unhappy about delays. Because of these characteristics, Type A individuals are often described as “stress junkies.”
Type B individuals, in contrast, are described as patient, relaxed, and easy-going, generally lacking any sense of urgency. Because of these characteristics, Type B individuals are often described as apathetic and disengaged.
I still don’t know. On the one hand, I’d say that a lot (hell, most) of the Type A traits fit me like a glove. On the other hand, I’m happiest when I’m in that Type B zone. If anything, I’m like a Type A who aspires to be a Type B.
Wikipedia also says “There is also a Type AB mixed profile for people who cannot be clearly categorized.“
Without being too agnostic about the whole thing, I’d say I probably fall into that last “AB” category.
What do you think? What personality type do you have, dear reader?

Ted you have most of the best qualities of both types anyone who makes list on a regualr basis can never be fully type B. I veiw myself as a type B 99 percent of the time which is great for the smile on my face but not always the money in my pocket

Here is my third and final rewrite. Good post today…it’s forced me to take a good look at myself. When I first read the traits I thought of myself as a definite B. Now after much thought I would say I’m the opposite of you a B aspiring to be an A. I have no patience, I think I’m very time conscious and I’m highly competitive. The thing is I’m so overly relaxed and easy going. These things hold me back from being ambitious and aggressive. Did you read anything about a “BA” category?

I am confident in my type A personality… So much so that I schedule in time for a little type B once a week! Once a week I give my scheduling a break and just go with the flow. The funny thing is, usually those are the best times for me! But I would never give up the scheduled routine of my life!
I sometimes wish I was a type B but then I realized, I would never get off the couch!

I”m type A by nature, as I grow older I’m more a balance of the two.
I dont think you can be only one type. If you could everyone would be mighty boring.
From what I know of you, I say you are type B first with type A tenacies.
In the end, ehy bother with a label at all? You are who you are. You have drive, ambitions, patiences, impatient moments, quiet moments, lonely moments…. In short, you are Ted. Stop trying to figure it out and just be.

Yeah Ted why can’t you just be? Why do you feel the need to overanalyze your life? Why can’t you try doing what your fav sister said and just go with the flow.
