Goddamn, if this blog gets any more self-referential, I’m going to stop reading it. That said, what do you think about me installing BuddyPress on this site? It would basically turn The Quixotic Jedi into a networking site – kind of like facebook or LinkedIn or whatever. That means you, dear reader, would be able to register on this site and interact with your fellow readers without just flipping back every now and again to see if anyone commented after you.
You can already register yourself as a user – though the way I think that works is that you register with WordPress (notice those who have their own gravatars) and your info is imported over here.
I need to do some more research on this – it’s pretty involved. It means I’d have to install WordPress MU (multi-user) first and then BuddyPress on top of it. On the one hand, I’m not sure if my blog posts would necessarily still be featured front & center – which is a serious consideration for me ego-wise.
Pros (on the other hand) include increased functionality for you, dear reader. Besides interacting with your fellows, I believe it would also give you opportunities to post content and set up an entire profile hereon. I don’t know – is that something you think you might be interested in? Would you spend a bit more time here, checking out what others have to say? Do you dig your fellows – their comments, etc.? Please feel free to let your opinions be known in the comments section – or email me separately: QuixoticJedi[at]gmail.com.

In other news, things are progressing for me in interesting ways. Katie (my favorite sister) suggested to me last week that taking care of Laila Jo is probably a good thing for me. She said that it’s good for me to spend time thinking about someone besides myself. That it’s good for me to take care of someone. Thankfully, I didn’t take this to mean “you’ve been wicked selfish lately”, which isn’t (I’m pretty sure) how she meant it. Rather, Laila Jo helps me stay out of my own head and keeps me from getting completely wrapped up in my own concerns.
Christine has been stopping by more often to spend time with Laila Jo – and sometimes bringing nice people like Jeanne with her – so I’ve been socializing a bit more than usual. It’s definitely a change to have more people besides just me walking in and out of my door.
On the upside, I’m a bit more social. On the downside, my apartment can sometimes feel more empty when it’s just me and Laila Jo. She’s a great cuddler, but she doesn’t have opposeable thumbs or the capacity for human speech, so she’s not really a big help in the kitchen.
I’ve been cooking more lately, too. I’ve been making a bundt cake for my Monday night commitment every week for the past couple of months. Tonight we had a potluck supper and I made chili (all day on Sunday), rice, cornbread, and a bundt cake. I forgot how nice it is to cook for other people. I haven’t done so since I was married.
I’ve also had to pick up some cooking implements – things I owned once-upon-a-time, but somehow lost in my many moves. I really need a new butcher knife – cutting everything with a big-ass hunting knife may be intensely masculine, but it’s not as convenient as one might think.
I’m thinking drum circle this Saturday night with the full moon. Anyone interested?

A simpler option to try out if you like before you take the plunge is bbPress. You don’t need to install MU to use it. It does integrate somewhat with WP, and yet is still separate, so your blog will retain its priority and autonomy. You would have a forum at say http://quixiticjedi/forum, where bbPress would live. It’s relatively easy to install and moderate and you can grant permissions to others to moderate as well, so you can have your own little forum empire here on your site where you still reign supreme(my ego understands the importance of this to your ego:).
I’ll be sure to bounce a couple of drumbeats off the moon from my back yard here in NM on Saturday.
Drum circle or howl at the moon either way works. And you should keep the cat definitely.
I did not mean you are selfish in any way, shape or form! I’m glad you realized that. It is exactly what you said, you stay out of your head. And look your socializing more and cooking for others b/c you are thinking of others…
And you didn’t mention that Brian and Scott will be banned from the FB like thing you want to install! They will ruin it for everyone LOL!
Keep the cat.
I say NO to all the other stuff. If your readers want to connect they will. I’ve already harvested Brian on FB…. ok well he harvested me… But I accepted.
You selfish? Yes, yes, you are. But in a good way of always thinking too much. It’s not a bad thing.
And besides, isn’t that what blogs are about? To openly vent whats on your mind.
The below are lyrics from Anna Nalick – Breathe
this version makes me think people who blog & have much to say but cant get it all out.
2 AM and I’m still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, its no longer
inside of me, threatening the life they belong to
And i feel like I’m naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you’ll use them, however you want to.
1. Katie – how will I ruin Ted’s blog? Scott is the one to blame, he is an instigator. I also want to let you know that a couple weeks ago on a Saturday I woke up in the early afternoon and saw you posted a comment on FB that you wanted someone to bring you coffee. I was gonna but I was broke and it was 3 hours later.
2. Samantha – I didn’t stalk you out on FB I believe Ted suggested you as a friend. I probably would have stalked you out but Ted beat me to it.
3. Ted You should do what you want with YOUR blog. Either way I will be here stirring shit up.
4. Miragi where you at?
