Last night I finished Princeps’ Fury, the most recent installment of Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera series. It was pretty darned good. I know that Butcher’s been cranking out novels for both the Codex Alera and The Dresden Files serieses as fast as he can – the Acknowledgements in Princeps’ Fury even say something along the lines of “thanks for all the help on such short notice” – but I think he’s getting the hang of it.
There were bits here and there in both serieses where I could tell that Butcher had been rushing through. But not in Princeps’ Fury. In classic Butcher style, it gets off to a good start and is action all the way through. I’ll give you a full review of the overall series soon.
Robert Brockway, my favorite Cracked.com writer, posted another beaut today, entitled 5 Amazing New Inventions (That Will Doom Humanity). We’re all gonna die. Soon. If I ever get my hands on these things, that is.
Here’s an interesting (if long) article from BoingBoing about Gary McKinnon, a UK man who hacked into all kinds of US military sites. Looking for information on UFOs and aliens. He’s been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, which is on the Autism scale. Not exactly Rain Man, but not Cole Trickle either. That’s a big part of his defense right now. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it – I only know one person who’s been diagnosed with AS, and she seemed pretty normal to me (as normal as Twitter conversations can indicate, that is). I think it’s kind of a flimsy/cheesy defense.
If you’re in the mood for something hip-yet-spiritual, head on over to YogaDork – and buy a “Yoga Is My Bailout” t-shirt: I did. I got mine in the original green, but there are now more colors available. Yes, I know that last sentence should end with an exclamation point, but I really don’t like those.
I have to say, I don’t know that I qualify as enough of a #yogadork to be wicked interested in every damned post topic, but you can bet that I read that blog every day. I dig the author’s writing style. She’s pretty cool in person, too. So yea, buy a shirt, you tool. Matt Helmick bought one, and he’s a Drupal programmer.
Lastly, here are a couple of interesting feeds I recently pulled, though I haven’t had much chance to do more than skim a few posts:
They look good to me. Let me know what you think.
Ok, one final thing. This is totally #NSFW (Not Safe For Work – so don’t click it if you’re there), but my work-twitter persona is being followed by some total hotties (which are quite obviously porn bots). Maybe they think my white collar and tie mean I’m rich, but I don’t care. If you have any idea who (remember: NSFW) this is, please tell her I love her.
