Summertime Something-or-Others

by niceguyted on July 28, 2009 · 4 comments

Yay summertime.  On Sunday, I put shorts on for the first time this summer.  It’s been pretty sticky-humid here in the Garden State over the past few days or so.  I really don’t feel like being at work – come to think of it, I really don’t feel like doing much of anything lately.  I don’t have a whole lot of motivation going on, but not in a bad way.  I’m not all anxious about where I’m going or what I’m doing (in life) or anything – I’m just pretty chill.  I don’t much mind my current lack of motivation.

I have, however, been waking up good and early of late.  My alarm is set for 6:30, and I’m usually awake well before that.  I am, of course, rolling back over and enjoying another hour of dozing before getting out of bed and rushing through my morning ablutions et cetera before work.  In speaking with my friend Mike this evening, I voiced my desire to find a reason to stay awake at that early hour.  But I’ve never been much of a morning person.  I’ve always been able to squeeze another hour out of the day (hence these-here late night blog posts), but getting out of bed early without a solid reason has always been tough.

Any suggestions?  I’m sure as hell not going to get myself psyched to go running at that hour (or any, for that matter).  Sit at Starbucks for half an hour and read while sipping my coffee?  I don’t think so.  On the odd day where I’m up and at ‘em that early during the work week, I usually just go through my morning ritual and make it to work extra-early.  Which, unfortunately, doesn’t mean I can bring myself to leave work correspondingly early.  So I end up at work for an extra hour, and eventually get resentful about that.  I’m up for suggestions here, dear reader.

Sayings remain meaningless until they are embodied in habits.  -Kahlil Gibran

That one’s getting tacked up on my wall.  I really need to start reading more Gibran.  How many times have I quoted his drunkard ass herein?

He’s right on the money.  I’m all about the action.  Fancy sayings are all good, but if I’m not actually changing my methods, they’re all for naught.  It’s possible to act one’s way into right thinking, but not to think one’s way into right action.

Early morning yoga is always a good way to start the day (not that my lazy ass is getting out of bed to do it). Your apartment is the perfect place to go outside under the trees and do some stretching. Besides that, I have always been a fan of the snooze button!!!!!

Wank. Simple.
Great way to start the day don’t you think?
ummm ya, not sure where that came from, but I’m sticking by it.

My suggestion – Yoga (but you knew that was coming)

PS – I <3 Kalil Gibran!

When’s your lazy ass going to be motivated to show up at my pick-up soccer games again, la-z-boy?
