Back to Normal?

“Thanks God, today was a good day.”

Every night, when I turn out the lights and settle into bed, I say this.  Out loud.

My internet dating profiles all say “Spiritual, Not Religious”, and they’re truthful.  I say all the time that I’m not a big god-guy, but I’m trying.  Not to be a BIG god-guy, but just to be someone who recognizes that there are things out there that are bigger than him.

Today was a good day.  I got out of bed at about a quarter to 6 – well before my alarm went off – instead of going back to sleep and barely waking up in time to be very late for work.  I pressed my khakis, picked up my mail and the $225 from catering on the 4th, and made it in to work by about a quarter to 8.  I spoke with both my parents today – the last time we spoke was probably Father’s Day – and fulfilled my commitments to my kinsmen in the evening.  I finished the novel I was reading (Revelation, by Carol Berg), and banged out a quick blog post (which you are now reading).  Unfortunately, as has been the off-and-on case for the last couple of weeks, my neighbor’s wi-fi service has been spotty, which is why this won’t be published at 1AM, as per usual.

I have no doubt that I’ll be able to wake up early tomorrow and start all over again.

I talked the IT people at work into letting me download a fancy Outlook plugin for LinkedIn that I used to have, and after my boss told them to re-enable Twitter for me, they also pulled Facebook off of the blocked list.  I set up a separate work-only Facebook account and friended everyone in my Outlook contacts, as well as sent LinkedIn invitations to everyone in my contacts to whom I had not already sent one.  All this, and I managed to get quite a bit of actual work done today as well.

I also called Scottrade and had them re-enable my account (I haven’t had web access for a few weeks, and I have no idea why they suspended it).  The things on my to-do list are not looking quite as unmanageable as they did on Monday.  In short, I have some of my motivation back, and my self-confidence has been kicked up several notches.  This will consequently do the same for my efficiency and productivity.  As far as I’m concerned, this is the very definition of awesomeness.

Thanks God, today was a good day.

Whew, whata relief. The title of your post had me panicked. If you ever go over to the Dark Side (aka: “normal”) it would be a dark day indeed.

Nice job on the twitter thing; it works for me now too.
