OOO – sick day

June 24, 2009 · 4 comments

Book #9 of The Dresden Files is just about completely read – it’s pretty much over, except for the shouting.  Maybe fifty pages of epilogue left that I’ll finish off at work tomorrow.  I think Butcher has one more book left in the series – he’s probably still writing the others.

And so ends my fiction-reading vacation.  Fifty pages and one more book, and I’ll have to lay aside my fiction addiction and pick up somethin new to keep me occupied for the summer.  Something dealing exclusively in real life.  My kayak beckons.  The mountains beckon.  And so does my bed, here at 1:06 in the Ante-Meridian.  I really should have saved more of that book for another day.

So yeah:  real life.  Good stuff.

I really hate it when Brian says that he thinks I’ve run out of things to talk about.  In my head that’s tantamount to “way to go, Ted:  another crappy post”.  Whatever.

I really wanted to call out sick from work today.  At this wee hour, I think I probably still could – it would only take one “OOO” email.  I finished off my last client-report for Taiwan yesterday/today.  And even though I’ve got plenty of stuff that I can do, dammit, I need a break.  It’s just that in my head, I’m so damned important that I’d really be screwing over the other people in the office by calling out tomorrow.  I should give them more of a heads-up when I’m going to get sick.

Ok.  I just did it.  I was messing around with my blackberry, fiddling with who would be cc’d and whatnot and accidentally hit “send”.  I was most likely going to leave the message unsent – I’m a procrastinator.  I would have been late to work anyway.  And I have that damned ceiling fan to install.  And it would be great if I could wax my car too.  And read that last Dresden Files novel.  ;-)

Fuckit.  I need a day off.  Thanks, goddess, for my scratchy-eyed screw-up:  I couldn’t have sent that email without you.

Well at least you’re freely admitting that you just want the day off and you’re not coming up with a lame-ass excuse like “sprained ankle” like that complete moronic douchebag we work with.

I agree with Tomers.

Most management would rather any employee who has been burning the candle at both ends, to just say, “I want a me day” cos any boss with half a brain, knows that person will make things worse if they are allowed to continue working with a mentally exhausted brain that doesnt know up from down etc.

Enjoy your day off, do not feel quilty.
