My alarm was set for 5:30 this morning. I’m going to try to get up in time to get my ass to the Catskills to bushwack Fir Mountain today. You can read about this hike in yesterday’s post (the first one). If you’re wondering if I got up on time and/or actually got my ass out of the woods in one piece, check the “What I’m Doing” thingie in the sidebar on the right, or click here to see more than three of my Twitter updates.
Yesterday I accomplished everything I set out to do: got new rear tires for the Mini, picked up my mail and $$ from my catering boss, and cleaned everything I own. I also got to spend a delightful hour or so over coffee with my sister Katie. It’s good to catch up with her when we can; we’re both pretty busy and don’t (in my opinion) get to see enough of one another. She’s also a good barometer for me: while she’s almost always proud of me, she usually has some good solid criticism and advice. Once upon a time, that criticism was accompanied by a bit of vitriol, but I like to think I’ve mellowed out enough that she doesn’t think me such a prick any more. In any case, as she is my little sister, I’m often compelled to offer her advice – fashioned with as much humility as I’m able to muster. Katie ends up being a good sounding-board for this advice, as she reminds me (not out loud, of course) that I should be practicing what I preach – whether she knows it or not.
I may get another opportunity to hang out with the $@BS this afternoon. We’ll see. We were considering a hike, but it’s supposed to rain. I’ve got raingear, so hopefully I’ll stay dry in the woods on the way up Fir. I rang Sabrina last night, but haven’t heard from her yet, so in the spirit of practicing what I preach, I figure I’ll Ramble On and maybe catch up with her in the afternoon.
I went to a birthday party last night for my friend Rachel. She wanted to get pizza for the group from a place down the street that doesn’t deliver. I offered to go pick it up, but Rachel is a real DIY-er, so we went together. What a treat, to get to spend that kind of quality time with the birthday girl. We spoke of, among other things, past and (possible) future relationships. I found out that “girls don’t think ‘sex’ when they see” me, but didn’t manage to wrangle out why. Maybe it’s my username.

Maybe you need to work on your dark and brooding persona. I’ve only got a few blog entries and your twitter avatar but you seem more open/friendly that hop-into-bed. NTTAWWT.
you are a lot less prickish than you used to be, that’s why we can spend time together. Thanks for the good advice. I agree we don’t get to spend enough time chillin’, but at least the time we do spend together is quality!
…”girls don’t think ‘sex’ when they see” you…
What? Do you mean online girls like me? Hahaha
If so, then yeah… could be the username… and then when they pop over here, they’re inundated with words and words and words… not very sexy, no. Not much mystery going on – insta-Friend Zone-relegation for you.
Nothing wrong with not being instantly associated with sex. Would you rather be judged “Sex-ay!!!1!!1″ or “Intriguing… what big words do you think he’ll use to make me drop my panties?”
Just saying. :D
