Today I’ll be hiking West Kill Mountain. At 3,880′, it’s the 6th highest mountain in the Catskills. It’ll be a tough climb, even though I’m starting at around 2,100′. Round-trip, the hike should be about 6 miles (starting from the parking area at the end of Route 6 in Spruceton.
This will be 32/39 in my quest to attain membership in the Catskill 3500 Club. Hopefully, I’ll be on the road by 6AM and back home sometime in the early afternoon hours.
Today’s going to be a long day, as I have to work this evening: catering for “Dad’s Night” in Ridgewood. I’m giving some serious thought to a handlebar moustache for the hike and the catering (I’m currently sporting a full beard, so the handlebar is just a careful shave away). I don’t know how fight-club-ish I’ll feel at 2AM, after I’ve been on my feet all day. Hopefully there’ll be time for a nap in the afternoon.
I’ve also decided to purchase a kayak for the spring and summer seasons. This will put a dent in my finances, but I’m a bit more worried about the dent in my timetable. In addition to washing and waxing the roof of my car and installing my roof rack, finding the time to spend an hour in the shop, getting outfitted with the attendant gear will be a pain in the ass. It’ll most likely have to be a weekend thing, as my weekday evenings (oxymoron?) get booked rather quickly. Oh, well: such is the life of a single adventure-hound.
If we all got together and put our problems on the table, I wouldn’t be the first one to take my own back – I wouldn’t even show up for that stupid party. ;-)
Eye heart my life.
